The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises individuals who have dedicated their career to Bikeability — shaping the industry, supporting others, and making a lasting impact over many years.
Jacqui Wilcox’s contribution to cycling and Bikeability in the South West is exactly that.
Her journey began in 2010 as a volunteer ride leader, supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges to access fresh air, gentle exercise and the benefits of cycling. It was here that Jacqui saw first-hand the transformative impact cycling can have.
Motivated to do more, she trained as a Bikeability instructor in 2011, delivering cycle training to both children and adults across Bristol. Just a year later, she expanded her role further by qualifying as a tutor, supporting the development of new instructors and strengthening the quality of delivery across the region.
In 2013, Jacqui moved into a staff role with Life Cycle, later becoming Training Manager – a position she held until her retirement in March 2025.
During this time, she oversaw significant growth in Bikeability delivery, while continuing to stay closely connected to the front line as both an instructor and tutor. Her influence extended beyond delivery, contributing to wider industry development through regional and national Bikeability networks, and supporting a range of charitable cycling initiatives working with children, young people and marginalised adult groups.
A passionate advocate for inclusion, Jacqui has been particularly committed to empowering more women to cycle — helping to break down barriers and build confidence for those who may not otherwise have accessed cycling.
Even in retirement, Jacqui’s commitment continues, now working as a freelance instructor and supporting the next generation of riders.

“It was a lovely surprise to be nominated for this award, let alone win… I have learned so much and it has been an amazing adventure.”
Reflecting on her career, Jacqui highlights the collective effort behind Bikeability’s success – from colleagues and training providers to the wider network that makes cycle training possible.

“The awards demonstrate what Bikeability training is all about – building confidence, independence and opening up new opportunities through cycling.”
Jacqui’s story is one of sustained impact – not only in the thousands of riders she has supported, but in the instructors she has trained, the programmes she has developed, and the communities she has helped to grow.
A lasting legacy in Bikeability.
