The Holidays, Activities and Food (HAF) programme has long been a vital resource for children who face financial barriers, providing not only meals but a chance to participate in enriching activities, including Bikeability, during school holidays. Now, thanks to the incredible generosity of Bike Club, thousands of children involved in the HAF programme will have access to a cycle.
Through an amazing donation of 800 strider balance bikes to The Bikeability Trust, these children will have the opportunity to develop essential cycling skills that can set them up for a life of active, healthy living. Balance bikes, designed for young children to learn balance and coordination before transitioning to pedal bikes, will be distributed to children who might not otherwise have access to a cycle due to financial constraints.
The donation of these cycles will have a significant impact, especially for those children who have never had the opportunity to learn how to cycle. Not only does cycling offer physical health benefits, but it can also build confidence, improve coordination and provide a sense of independence.
We’d like to take a moment to also acknowledge Bike Right, a fantastic provider of cycle training who have kindly agreed to store the bikes on the Trust’s behalf before they are distributed to the relevant training providers. Without their support, this generous donation would not be possible, and we truly appreciate their involvement in making this initiative a success.
The HAF programme, with its inclusion of Bikeability cycle training, is ensuring that thousands of children across the country will benefit from the joys of cycling. This initiative is more than just about cycles, it’s about providing opportunities, enhancing physical activity and promoting a future where every child has the chance to thrive.
We look forward to seeing how these cycles will make a difference in the lives of so many children, giving them not only a cycle, but the skills and confidence to embrace new experiences and a healthier lifestyle.
A Bright Future Ahead
As these cycles make their way to training providers across the country, we are excited to think about the positive impact they will have. Whether it’s helping children explore their local area, encouraging active play, or teaching valuable road safety skills, we believe this initiative is just the beginning of empowering children through cycling. We are thrilled to see how these cycles will help shape a brighter, healthier future for children who need it the most.
A big thank you once again to Bike Club, Bike Right and to all the training providers and instructors working together to make cycling accessible to every child. Together, we’re creating a positive ripple effect that will impact generations to come.
