Sikh Cycling Club is a community-driven cycling club that unites cycling enthusiasts from across the UK, blending faith, fitness, and camaraderie. The club welcomes cyclists of all abilities, providing a platform where people can come together through their shared love of cycling and the Sikh values of Seva (selfless service), Simran (remembrance of God) and Sangat (community). Sikh Cycling Club hosts a variety of events, offering opportunities for both experienced cyclists and newcomers to get involved in rides inspired by Sikh heritage.

We caught up with Sikh Cycling Club to find out more about their organisation:

How was Sikh Cycling Club formed?

A group of friends started riding together in 2012, and from there, a small collective gradually formed. It became clear that there was a desire in the Sikh community for a more formalised structure, so the Sikh Cycling Club was officially formed in 2023.

How has Sikh Cycling Club grown over time?

Since 2022, the club has grown significantly and now has over 140 members on Strava.

The club has created a community spirit, allowing individuals of all backgrounds to join and enjoy the sport of cycling.

Are there any members of your team or club you would like to highlight?

Our chairperson Harjit Lakhan has been an inspiration to many of our riders. Being one of our first female riders, many have seen Harjit as a role model.

Are there any upcoming cycling events you would like to share with us?

We will be hosting our annual flagship Vaisakhi Ride, which commemorates the formation of the Khalsa. Find out more about this event and upcoming events below:

Vaisakhi Ride

Date: April 20, 2025

Location: Seven Kings Gurdwara (London East)

Vaisakhi is a spring festival which celebrates the founding of the Sikh community, the Khalsa, in 1699.

Chabeel Ride

Date: June 21, 2025

Location: Lambourne End Car Park, Chigwell

Chabeel is a cool sweet drink served during the summer months. The Sikh community offers chabeel to the public on hot days to pay their respect to the 5th Sikh guru, Guru Arjun Dev Ji.

Mott St – Hill Climb

Date: October 5, 2025

Location: Lambourne End Car Park, Chigwell

A challenge for cyclists looking to test their strength on a hill climb.

Gurpurab Ride

Date: November 2, 2025

Location: Singh Sabha Southall (Park Ave)

Guru Nanak Jayanti, also referred to as Gurpurab, is a festival that commemorates the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and a spiritual leader.
