The annual awards, which are announced across our social media channels, celebrate the people who make Bikeability a success.
Whether they’re an inspiring instructor, a rider who doesn’t let anything stop them, or a family who encourage more people to get cycling, we’re so proud of everyone involved in Bikeability!
We have a rundown of all this year’s worthy winners below.
Instructor of the Year
Winner: Kate Arnold
Kate Arnold works for Avanti Cycling and can regularly be seen pedaling a cargo bike and trailer around their home city of Oxford – delivering bikes to trainees to enable them to participate in Bikeability.
Kate works to support the wider cycling culture in Oxford, collaborating with local councillors and organisations including Cyclability, Joy Riders, Active Oxfordshire and as the Vice Chair of Cyclox. When not doing all of that, they can be found trying to master their unicycle!
Kate won an amazing new cycle, courtesy of Ridgeback Bikes.
Young Cyclist of the Year (Pete Rollings Award)
Winner: Harvey Goodman
Harvey is an inspirational 8-year-old boy who loves to cycle. He came up with the idea to cycle 80 miles over two days to the four North West Premier League football stadiums.
He rallied his friends, family, and community along the way to raise money for new cycle sheds for his school. In total, he raised over £7,500, which will allow 40 more children to cycle to school. Well done Harvey!
Harvey won a brand new cycle from Frog Bikes.
Family of the Year
Winner: The Tranter Family
As a family, the Tranters love sharing their passion for cycling with others through volunteering, competing, organising events and coaching. The children compete on and off-road in regional cycling leagues, Dad enjoys long-distance rides, and Mum represents Great Britain in triathlon this year in her age group.
But the best cycling fun comes from adventures as a family, particularly when there is an ice cream stop involved! Doing Bikeability in school really helped the children develop the skills they needed to join Mum and Dad on two-wheel adventures, and they are looking forward to exploring more locations as they get older.
The Tranters won cards from NatWest Rooster Money and £500 cash.
School of the Year
Winner: Riddings Junior School
Riddings Juniors, located on the edge of Alfreton in Derbyshire, is a vibrant and nurturing school community that serves 240 pupils aged 7 to 11. At the heart of the local community, the school is committed to supporting the students and their families, fostering a strong sense of belonging and involvement.
Riddings Juniors goes above and beyond in making sporting events accessible to all families, whether it is by helping to arrange necessary transportation or equipment such so no one has to miss out. Thanks to the schools’ hard work, every Year 5 student participates in Bikeability Levels 1 and 2.
Riddings Juniors won £750 to spend with Freewheel.

Winner: South Ribble Borough Council
The Active Health Team at South Ribble Borough Council is a team of passionate, committed cycle instructors. They deliver Bikeability at Levels 1, 2 & 3 to the highest possible standard.
They cover over 40 schools and last year delivered 201 places over target on the Level 1&2 Programme. This is achieved through loaning vast numbers of cycles to children. Sometimes they will gift cycles to children to empower them to continue their cycling journey.
The Team go above and beyond to ensure every child who participates in Bikeability at every school has the best possible experience, and to inspire future cyclists.
South Ribble Borough Council won 10 Velodrome sessions courtesy of the Bicycle Association.
Personal Achievement Award
Winner: Anastasia
Anastasia is severely sight impaired, she only can see a short arm’s length, but she didn’t let that stop her! She wants to ride – and not on tandem! Anastasia was determined to control her own cycle, see the view and feel free.
With support from her mum and Bikeability instructors, Anastasia has been able to do just that and has now achieved both Level 1&2 Bikeability! She said: “Life has shown me that I must persevere, going over every obstacle and overcome my shortcoming. I am aware of my limits therefore I focus on my potential. See the capability not the disability!”
Anastasia won a children’s balance cycle, or equal value to spend at the Tandem Group Cycles, from Squish Bikes.
