Celebrating new skills for the New Year
Here at Bikeability, we’re all about helping families build confidence, stay active, and develop skills that last a lifetime – all while having fun! If your child got a new cycle for Christmas, or you’re looking to build important new skills, we’ve developed a series of fun #NewYearNewWheels activities to help you out.
These activities can be enjoyed with either a pedal cycle or a balance bike, as a family or with friends. Take a look at the images below for instructions on how to take part, and what equipment you might need:
Delivery rider
Delivery driver will help your child to practice:

Follow the leader is perfect for:
- Building confidence in cycle handling
- Understanding spatial awareness
Grandma’s footsteps
Grandma’s footsteps will help your child to build confidence in:
- Moving and stopping quickly with control
Slow race
Slow race will help your child to:
- Practice the skill of slow speed control
Stop in the box
Stop in the box is great for:
- Increasing confidence in moving and stopping
- Practicing using breaks to stop and pedals to set off
Get cycling into 2025 and WIN!
To celebrate new skills for the New Year, we’re giving away a Squish balance bike and helmet! Between Wednesday 1 January and Wednesday 15 January, we’re running a #NewYearNewWheels competition across our social media channels.
The winner will receive a Squish 14” balance bike in purple, and a helmet courtesy of Tandem Group Cycles in blue. We’re also giving away a Bikeability bundle to a lucky runner up that contains a sports bag, sports bottle, cycle bell, badge and stickers.
