Every year cyclists from all over the world take part in the Tour de France, inspiring many more to get pedalling!

This year, the cyclists taking part in the Tour de France will pedal 3,490 km across four different countries including Italy, San Marino and Monaco. The start of the race, or the Grand Départ, took place in Italy for the first time in the history of the Tour, with cyclists setting out from Florence.

In another first, the 2024 Tour will not finish in Paris. Due to the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, the finale of the Tour will take place in Nice instead. The riders will compete in 21 stages over 23 days, including 8 flat stages, 4 hilly, 7 mountain stages, 2 time trials and just 2 rest days.

Women’s Tour 2024

The Tour de France Femmes was launched for the first time in 2022, and this year it is taking place in August, starting on Monday 12th August in Rotterdam.

The Tour de France Femmes 2024 covers 946.3 km over 8 stages over, including 3 flat stages, 2 hilly, 2 mountain stages and 1 time trial.

It will cover three countries, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, and the race ends on Sunday 18th August at Alpe D’Huez.

Cycling inspiration

Two children, a boy and a girl, cycling on Frog Tour de France branded bicycles. They are both wearing yellow Tour de France branded t-shirts. They are cycling along a country road.

Watching a nail biting finish in a cycling race can get kids excited about cycling. We have some suggestions to keep the momentum going and encourage them to cycle more!

Create your own Le Tour

Why not come up with Tour route together – depending on age and ability you could create one or more stages for your kids to ‘compete’ in. You could have a stage in your garden or a local park. Other stages could be made up of safe local routes, like a trip to shops or a friend or relatives’ house, or even their cycle to school

You could even have small prizes for each stage so they feel like winners!

Get your cycles race ready

Obviously if you’re going to be competing in Le Tour, you need your ride in tip top condition! A super shiny, clean cycle is going to make them stand out as they pass the road lined with their (imaginary!) adoring fans. We have some great tips on how to keep your cycle clean

Design your own jersey

Get their creative juices flowing and have them design their own winners journey. You could do one for each stage and theme them accordingly. Grab our template to design your own jersey here!

We hope you’re inspired to tackle your own Tour this year!
