Mekhei did his Bikeability training in the last term of school in year 5, at St. Johns, Upper Holloway – London, taught by Islington Council.

Mekhei has a prosthetic leg, having had to have it amputated when a very small child. However, he hasn’t let his disability get in the way of a challenge. He loves cycling and was very enthusiastic about doing Bikeability training, when offered at his school in Islington, London.

His instructor, Andrew, was very impressed that Mekhei kept going with the training despite clearly finding it very uncomfortable to ride a 2-wheel bike. And he was particularly impressed that Mekhei was very focused on ensuring that others in the class were also learning and benefiting.

The Bikeability Trust met Mekhei and his mum, Ophelia, at a school assembly at the end of the summer term when he was presented with a certificate and prize in recognition of his achievements, as a Runner-Up for Trainee of the Year, national Bikeability Awards 2019.
